Understand Your Sales Analytics

Real-time sales data, hourly trends, and item performance — updated as orders come in.

OpenPOS tracks every transaction and gives you real-time insights into your restaurant's performance. No waiting for end-of-day reports — your numbers are updated as orders are completed.

Key metrics

Go to Analytics in the sidebar to see:

  • Total sales — Gross revenue for any time period.
  • Order count — Number of completed orders.
  • Average order value — Revenue per order. Track this to measure upselling effectiveness.
  • Item performance — Your best and worst sellers by quantity and revenue.

Hourly breakdowns

See which hours drive the most revenue. Use this data to:

  • Optimize staffing schedules — schedule more people during peak hours.
  • Time your promotions — run lunch specials during slow 2-4pm periods.
  • Identify untapped opportunities — if you're slow on Tuesday evenings, try a Tuesday deal.

Item performance

Check this weekly to identify:

  • Best sellers — Keep these in stock and prominently featured.
  • Slow sellers — Consider removing or repositioning these on your menu.
  • High-margin items — Compare revenue vs cost to find your most profitable items.

How it works behind the scenes

OpenPOS uses event-driven analytics — every completed or cancelled order triggers an instant aggregation update. A nightly reconciliation ensures 100% accuracy. This means your dashboard always shows current numbers without any manual processing.
