Email & SMS Marketing Campaigns
Send targeted campaigns to customer segments — right from your dashboard.
OpenPOS includes built-in email and SMS marketing so you don't need Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or a separate SMS tool. Reach your customers directly from the same dashboard where you manage your orders.
Campaign types
- Email only — Announcements, menu updates, event invitations.
- SMS only — Flash deals, time-sensitive offers, order updates.
- Email + SMS — Hit both channels for maximum reach.
Customer segments
Don't blast your entire list. OpenPOS automatically creates smart segments based on customer behavior:
- VIP Customers — High-frequency or high-value orderers.
- New Customers — First-time buyers in the last 30 days.
- Lapsed Customers — Haven't ordered in a while.
- Custom segments — Create your own based on order history, total spend, or other criteria.
Creating a campaign
- Go to Marketing in the sidebar.
- Click New Campaign.
- Choose campaign type: email, SMS, or both.
- Select your target segment.
- Write your message. For email, you get a formatted template. For SMS, keep it short and include a link.
- Send immediately or schedule for a specific date and time.
Tracking results
After a campaign sends, track performance:
- Delivery rate — How many messages were successfully delivered.
- Open rate — Email opens (tracked automatically).
- Click rate — Link clicks.
- Failed deliveries — Bounces and invalid numbers.
Messaging credits
Campaigns use your prepaid messaging wallet. SMS costs $0.03 per message and email costs $0.01 per message. New accounts start with a $100 credit bonus. Purchase more in Settings > Billing, or enable auto-reload so your balance tops up automatically when it gets low. AI-initiated messages are free — only merchant-initiated campaigns use credits.
Best practices
- SMS has 98% open rates vs ~20% for email. Use SMS for time-sensitive offers.
- Send to specific segments, not everyone. A "we miss you" deal to lapsed customers converts better than a generic blast.
- Combine with promotions — create a promo code, then send it to a targeted segment.
